ABOUT

All My Friends is an Asian and Pacific-led collective of artists designing experiences that range from club nights to markets to video works to exhibitions. Led by Tommo Jiang, Mariadelle "Abbey" Gamit, Tyrun Posimani and Kevin Shen, the collective formed to create more inclusive nightlife spaces and to give “creatives who usually don’t get the chance to work on bigger projects to get involved”. Their work has since evolved to encompass a wider range of event types, each defined by their approach of treating every aspect of an event — from announcement to promotion to documentation — as an artistic project.

In 2023, the collective presented the exhibition Niu Gold Mountain at Studio One Toi Tū, which posed the question: “What are the aspirations of this generation's Asian and Pasifika artists? What is your New Gold Mountain?” The four video works — a collaboration across 13 early career creatives — address the fact that “rarely are Pacific and Asian diasporic identities unpacked in conversation with each other”, with co-founder Tyrun Posimani commenting, “Niu Gold Mountain is about visibility, creating spaces where we can be seen and celebrated; breaking down barriers for connection. Connection cannot happen if no one takes the first step.”

In 2024, they presented a second edition of Niu Gold Mountain featuring two video works: Beijing 北京 by Ersha Island 二沙岛, Jiaqi Tang, and Xin Ji and Fruits in the Diaspora by romiin, spdrtwnbby and Vain Creative.

Niu Gold Mountain is a significant project because it explores the migrant diaspora as an evolving phenomenon, instead of a static experience,” reflected Jennifer Cheuk in Rat World. Writing specifically about Beijing 北京, she wrote: “This video is part of a new era of Asian diasporic artmaking that moves past observation and expectation, instead focusing on self-expression beyond stereotyped representation and cultural markers.”
